Would you like to begin beekeeping?
The 2020 EFBKA Beekeeping Beginner Course is now open for bookings and we welcome your application to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Course costs £160 and will run in four parts. You will need to attend all four sessions to gain the EFBKA Certificate in Beginner Beekeeping.
1 At an Introductory Session on Saturday 2 May from 10am to 1pm we will meet to outline the practical aspects of keeping bees: What are you letting yourself in for? What equipment is essential? Where may bees be kept? This indoor session will allow you to examine hives, ask questions, try on a bee-suit, collect a training manual, and have a biscuit with your tea.
2 Please choose to attend one of two outdoor Beekeeping Sessions on either Saturday 30 May & Saturday 6 June or Sunday 31 May & Sunday 7 June. Times for these dates are 10am-6pm at our Wanstead Apiary.
Please state which pair of days you prefer. You may not switch between days. We ask that beekeepers meet 30 minutes before each Session begins. Protective equipment will be supplied.
The Beekeeping Sessions are very hands-on and will teach you how to manage a healthy colony of bees through the season, to recognise and control swarming, to produce honey and above all, to enjoy your first year with bees.
3 A Honey Session on Saturday 15 August from 10am to 3pm will give you an opportunity to learn to extract, bottle and label honey.
We offer this Course on a first-come-first-served basis. Please note that the Course will be fully booked before the end of 2019. We will refund Course fees if you need to cancel your booking up to one month prior to the start of the Course.
We hope that you will be able to join us next year for training sessions that we believe to be both professional and practical, and which will prepare you thoroughly for your initial beekeeping years.
