Would you like to begin beekeeping?
The 2021 EFBKA Beekeeping Beginner Course will run subject to C19 restrictions.
We will take only take bookings once we are reasonably confident we can run the course.
Because of the changeable situation please register your interest with this online form.
The Course costs £160 and will run in four parts. You will need to attend all four sessions to gain the EFBKA Certificate in Beginner Beekeeping.
1 At an online Introductory Session on Wednesday 21st April from 7pm we will outline the practical aspects of keeping bees: What are you letting yourself in for? What equipment is essential? Where may bees be kept? How do bees reproduce? What is life like within the hive?
2 Please choose to attend one of two outdoor Beekeeping Sessions on either Saturday 24th April & Saturday 1st May or Sunday 25th April & Sunday 2nd May. Times for these dates are 9am-3.30pm at our Wanstead Apiary.
Please state which pair of days you prefer. You may not switch between days. We ask that beekeepers meet 30 minutes before each Session begins. Protective Beesuits will be supplied.
The Beekeeping Sessions are very hands-on and will teach you how to manage a healthy colony of bees through the season, to recognise and control swarming, to produce honey and above all, to enjoy your first year with bees. We aim to deliver these sessions in accordance with C19 restrictions and you will have your temperature checked on arrival and agree to social distancing throughout.
3 An online Session on Wednesday 28th April from 7pm will give you an opportunity to learn about bee health and bee diseases, pests and parasites; setting up an apiary and regulations associated with keeping bees.
