EBKA

Our Aims

Our aims are to promote beekeeping by:
  • Having regular, interesting and informative meetings and events for the members to attend.
  • Giving support to member beekeepers, including practical help and advice.
  • Promoting responsible and considerate beekeeping.
  • Helping our members to maintain healthy and productive honeybee colonies.
  • Organising and running a beginners course.
  • Preparing novice beekeepers for the Basic Assessment.
  • Mentoring beginner beekeepers and helping them set up and work their first hive.
  • Educating the public at shows, for example, The Forest Festival, about bees and beekeeping.
  • Having an annual Honey Show at which all members can exhibit their honey and other bee-related products.
  • We run a divisional apiary, where some members keep a hive of bees, which we can use for educational purposes. The development of this apiary and its use for the division is, at present, under review and expanding.
  • Producing a monthly Newsletter giving news of the divisional activities. The EBKA also produce a monthly publication, The Essex Beekeeper. Both of these publications can be downloaded from the relevant websites or obtained by post.
